I just posted the Patron's Choice picture for February. Head on over to Patreon and check it out if you're interested! :la:

Commissions: Coming Soon

Wed Jan 25, 2017, 8:58 PM
Hi folks!

So I've been thinking about this for a while, but after the recent bout of medical bills, I've decided that I need to get tough and open up commissions in order to make sure we stay in the black. I've been considering the best approach for this for a while, so here's some bullet points that might answer a couple of the questions you may have.

  • Commission slots will be available to Patreon subscribers before others.
That means if a slot opens up, folks on Patreon will get first dibs. Outside of that, it'll be first-come, first-serve.
  • The price list, as well as the commission policy and the signup sheet, will be posted sometime this weekend.
Expect it to hit Patreon first, and then dA and Tumblr a bit after that.
  • There will be five slots at first, and more opportunities later as these get completed.
I'm going to try to keep it rolling this time.
  • Payment will be through PayPal. At this moment I'm not taking points commissions.
The hospital already told me they won't accept dA points as payment.
That's it! Stay tuned, check out Patreon if you're interested in getting a jump on it, and I hope you all have a great rest of your week! :D

So I'm going to try something this year - instead of Patron's Choice drawings being exclusive, I'm going to post them on Patreon and make them open to the public. Patrons will still get to submit ideas, participate in the polls, and see all of the WIPs as it's being worked on.

Check out the comic below on Patreon!

Time for some draws.

Plans for Today:
  • Patron's Choice: We're Gonna Need a Bigger Boat
  • Shading on the Next 'The Start of Something Big' Page
  • Random Sketching

I put in a tech support ticket and three days later my notification center is working as intended. Just checking - are the other folks who were having this issue are also fixed?
Has anybody who uses the Notification Center to keep track of new art (rather than the Watch page) had it get locked up so that new pictures aren't appearing, and the things it's displaying are actually a couple of months old? It seems to be happening exclusively in 'Stacked' mode, which is kind of obnoxious, since that's the mode I'm always in.

Let me know if you guys are seeing the same issue!

Hi folks!

So a good friend of mine is doing Inktober, and she convinced me to go ahead and give it a shot too! What to expect - a bunch of random sketches with almost no cohesive theme. I'm going to try drawing something every day, but there's no promises. I'll probably do this month's Patron's choice doodle (which all you $10 supporters should be sending ideas in for NOW) in this style, too, so look forward to that!

I'm going to be posting these on Patreon, and on Tumblr as well. I don't want to clutter up dA too much with things that are really just doodles, so please tune in to one of those venues.

Hope you all are having a good October 1st!

Hey folks!

Just wanted to make a quick heads up post, since I totally failed to notice Hug a Giant Day sneaking up on me. XD Hug a Tiny Day is a little more than a week away, so for all you people that like to take your time (I'm definitely included in that) now's a great time to put something together for this fun day. ^___^
Hi folks!

So with The Start of Something Big starting again, I have a few Patreon updates I wanted to share. I did my best to break it down into somewhat easy to read sections, but it's still a wall of text. If you have any questions or want to talk about any of this, either leave a comment or send me a note. I'll do my best to respond to either as soon as I can.

All Contributions will Count Double Towards Takai's Growth in this Chapter

Takai has a plan of her own to see just how big she can get. For the entirety of this chapter, any pledges made will count double towards her growth. Which means pledging at the $5 level will bump her up 10', $10 will escalate her up 20', and so on. I'm fairly certain that this will be, without a doubt, Takai's largest growth spurt yet. :la:

Patron's Choice Sketches are Now Going to be Patron Only

So I know that this is going to be a letdown for some people, but this is something I've been considering for a while. Besides the fact that I don't like uploading unfinished sketches and such to my dA, it makes sense to have at least a little content be Patreon-exclusive. I might still upload the occasional Patron's Choice that gets polished and completed here, but by and large, you'll need to check those out on Patreon. (No existing drawing will be removed from my dA gallery. That'd just be rude.)

Scheduled Deviation Releases

My goal for the last couple of years has been to produce one shiny piece of art every month. I want to make the process a little more orderly. I'm going to plan on uploading art to dA on the last day of every month, maybe even at a set time. I think that it'd help me manage my load a little better to have a set deadline, and that way folks won't have to ask when the next picture's coming. Of course, anyone at the $5 tier or higher can see all the Works-in-Progress anyways, so if you can't stand the wait, that'll be your best option.

A Brand New Reward Tier has been Added

Along with the other changes, I'm adding a new tier! If you contribute at this level, you will get a 4 hour artstream (either private or public, your choice) where you get to pick what I draw. I can do a refsheet of your characters, I can draw this idea you've had in the back of your mind for months and just want someone to put on paper (digital paper), you name it. The only thing I ask is that you don't cross the line on things I'm seriously uncomfortable with (note me if you are unsure), but other than that, the sky's the limit. Because of the way Patreon handles pledges right now, your stream will be held the month after your pledge goes through. So if you begin pledging on this level in August, I'll get in touch to set up a date and time that works in September. To start with, there are only going to be two slots for this, but I'd like to add more as time allows.

New Reward Tier Pictures

(And because I know someone will ask, the +1', +5' etc are the pledge amounts. I thought it was cute, and it makes more sense on the Patreon site)

Note: I will still only draw subject matter that I'm comfortable with. This reward will be fulfilled after the first payment has gone through, due to the nature of it. Please contact me regarding any questions you might have.

Alright folks, that's all the news, the whole shebang. Thank you for reading and supporting me - whether your support comes in the form of a pledge or a comment, it means the world to me. Thank you so much for being what makes this community amazing. :la:

Picarto wasn't cooperating yesterday, but I kicked the tires this morning and it seems solid today, so let's try this again! Might be joined by a couple really great artists, too! :icongoattrain: :iconn647:

Monthly Art Stream this Friday

Tue Jul 12, 2016, 6:29 AM
Hi folks!

This Friday evening we'll be doing our monthly art stream (thank you to all the supporters who make this possible)! We'll probably going to start between 7-8PM, Eastern, so feel free to come by! I'll post a journal with a link when I'm ready to start. :la:

Hey folks! I just wanted to let you know that May's deviation is actually going to be dropping on June 2nd, since it's a surprise for when Takai gets back from her trip. I want to keep it a surprise, so I'm going to wait until she's seen it to post it. ^__^

EDIT: Thanks for coming by, folks! The WIPS I got will show up on Patreon later this weekend probably. ^_^

Hi folks!

The first monthly art stream starts now! picarto.tv/chibibiscuit
Today is the day my wife, my best friend, my entire world came into being. Takai, I love you with every fiber of my person. You make the gloomy days happy, and the happy days incredible. I don't know what I did to deserve a life with such a fantastic, amazing woman, but I'm so thankful to share my existence with a soul as caring and as beautiful as yours.

Happy Birthday!

New Patreon Rewards: Patron's Choice!

Wed Aug 26, 2015, 8:04 PM
Hi folks!

So I had an idea I wanted to share with you all... I've been wanting to beef up the $1 and $10 levels on my Patreon, and Takai and I had an idea.

In addition to the stuff you're already getting, we thought doing a monthly Patron's Choice drawing could be fun! Here's the details!

  • Near the end of the month, those at the $10 Level will be able to submit ideas (right now, it's just through Patreon Messages, or through dA Notes). If you choose to submit an idea through a dA Note, please remember to put your Patreon e-mail in it, otherwise it'll be disregarded!
  • Sometime in the beginning of the month, I'll post a poll with all the ideas (as well as one or two Takai throws in), which will be accessible to all patrons at the $1 Level or Higher. (So if you're at the $5 or $10 Level, you'll still get to vote!)
A few days later, we'll tally up the votes, and I'll sketch the winner!

Anyhow, let me know guys! Let's see how this goes!

Edit: It would help if I put a link to the Patreon

Smalltalk - Art Theft

Thu Aug 20, 2015, 8:24 PM

Okay folks, serious talk here.

So someone posted on my page today asking me to watch them, so I looked at their gallery... Only to see a ton of pictures I recognized from a dozen other artists in the community. This is not cool. These folks work hard to create these pictures, and reposting them up to the internet without any citation or credit (especially if you're posting them to dA, when you originally took the image from da) is wrong.

It's absurd that in the information age we're still dealing with folks who don't know better, but when articles like the one below are painting copyright law in so many shades of gray, it becomes necessary to provide clarification.

StealingArt theft can be

-dA's Explanation of Copyright Law

Despite all of the complex gray areas of intellectual property law, if you are posting a piece of art made by another artist, without permission, or at the very least credit in the form of a citation back to said original artist, then what you are doing is wrong.

Now most people understand this - but what I tried to figure out today was what to do if you find out you or another deviant's art has been taken without permission...

First off, I just want to point out, that dA has completely washed their hands of any responsibility for this matter. They have removed the ability to report a deviation as stolen work, and instead provide a link so the owner can file a DMCA claim form to pursue legal action, forcing dA to remove the infringing deviation. Unfortunately, this course requires the artist to provide their full name, address and phone, as it is a legal form. This form then goes to dA Admins, as well as the user who is infringing upon your work.
Upon submission, this form is sent directly to our Copyright and Etiquette Administration staff. All of the information provided in this form may be made available to the DeviantArt user responsible for the content that is the subject of the takedown notice...

... I understand that DeviantArt may forward a copy of this complaint to the individual against whom I am claiming infringement.

-
help.deviantart.com/dmca/
I don't know about you, but I like my anonymity. I definitely don't like the idea of giving some stranger who took my art my home address and phone number. I know this information is part of DMCA policy, but... Really?

So then the question stands - what do you do?

  1. Ask the user to take it down.
Explain the situation. Some people just don't understand that this is a big deal. Try to get them to see it from your point of view.
  2. Alert the artist.
Whether it's via note or by posting a comment on the infringing picture citing the original work (mentions do a great job of letting the artist know what's up), if you see this going on, try to let the artist know. They're the only person who can really take the next step, if it comes to that.
  3. Heck, I don't know.
After that step, I really have no idea. If you're the artist, and you've asked the user to take down your artwork and all you got in response was a swipe with the ban-hammer and your comments hidden, what's your next course of action? What are your guyses' thoughts on this?
Also, just as a note - my art was not taken by the individual in question, I'm just frustrated by the lack of options for responding to blatant, in-your-face plagiarism. :/
