Takai, Also in Wonderland by chibiBiscuit Takai, Also in Wonderland by chibiBiscuit
Attention: Please Full-View. Seriously, 90% of the detail is occupying 10% of the canvas.

A sequel to this picture, and it looks like Takai finally got around to eating that cake I was trying to give her. See, there was a reason I was saving that one for her. :D

Again, starring in this little fiasco is:

:iconn647: (Mad Hatter)
:iconcorruptking: (March Hare)
:iconchibibiscuit: (Dormouse)
:icontakaibiscuit: (Alice)
:icontkckrys: (Herself)

Takai has enough mass at this point to warrant her own atmosphere! (aka, I have no idea! :la:)

Umm... Oh dear... I guess that's what happens when a someone who is already a giant/giantess eats the magic growth cake, they end up over a mile tall!

Red Queen: Off with her head!

Card Soldier: I don't think we can reach her head, your majesty!

I am not a strange person! And I'm pretty sure Takai's seen enough Alice in Wonderland to know what happens if you indulge in any kind of cakes. :D

Is her whole body even still in the Earth's atmosphere? This is too big.lol

Actually, yes! The troposphere level of the Earth's atmosphere (where there's oxygen and clouds and such) extends up to 56,000 feet, and Takai's actually only about 30,000 feet, so if the sky's the limit, she still has a little wiggle room. ^_^

Problem is, once you are at 9000 meters like Takai is, oxygen concentration is less than a third of what it is at sea level. A human can survive at that height for a few minutes, but someone at Takai's size would have incredibly oxygen requirements that atmosphere couldn't fill. This is complicated by the fact that Takai has much longer legs by proportion. So even if we are to assume the ground is at sea level, she'd have maybe a minute, max two, before losing consciousness and collapsing to a far more tolerable oxygen level. You do NOT want Takai to collapse. I'll say why in a second. At this size, Takai would not be physically able to walk, run, or stand properly. Half that size? She'd have a far better experience, though she'd tire easily and often would be short of breath.

On the subject, at the height she is now, her total weight would come to around 9 trillion tons. She would be sinking into the ground (even solid clay would basically be liquid under her feet) at this point as physics would put her in her rightful place as a new mountain. The land is simply not built to carry someone that big, and she'd have enough sheer mass to fracture the crust and expose groundwater, oil... if she jumped, the resulting earthquake would decimate cities a hundred miles away. If she was near a fault line, she could create a new volcano.

I like the size comparison here. It's very accurate and I can tell you worked a lot on it. Indeed, regular people would be less than half a millimeter to you. However, that's just a speck. Even with glasses she wouldn't be able to see that with any level of detail.

I always like hearing the realistic science behind the fantasy. :D It's an interesting thought, to be sure.

In an effort to preserve the suspension of disbelief though (hahaha) I'm obligated to provide the following counter-arguments:

Green Square Bullet We're in Wonderland. The crust density, volume and composition may be different than that of Earth, as may be the atmosphere composition.

Green Square Bullet The Tea has pre-cognitive abilities, much like the spice of Dune. Takai isn't seeing the rest of us as much as 'sensing' our possible futures.

Green Square Bullet This is all actually a hallucination Takai's having from eating too much cake. (Which is also loaded with Dune Spice)

You don't have to really supply counterarguments. There could be millions of reasons why science wouldn't apply. But I do like talking about realistic science and you can believe I'll always be around to dispense more of it here :)

It does look like you really struggled with this one. That's why I was contemplating putting it in my Favorites, but didn't.^^; It's good, and your hard work paid off, so I was gonna put it there, but... it looks like it was more struggle than all your other stuff.

But take it as a good thing! It means your hard work both paid off, AND shows! I'm glad you made this!

I can 100% agree with you - this picture kind of has a forced feeling to it, and I'm not just talking about forced perspective here. :D

Still, it was a learning piece, and I'd rather have something show a struggle than a lack of effort. ^_^ Thank you for the honest comment. :)

Come on, you know that's not true... I'm still only at an amateur level. I have a long way to go before I feel comfortable with some things... one of which is perspective. 95% of my pictures have no perspective in them. It terrifies me. XD

There was some good experience in this one - and let's see.. lessons I learned from this, I think a big one is to consider the entire scene, not just the figures. Because let me tell you, drawing Takai at this scale was fun, but drawing the background was not. Considering the big picture would have made me consider the curve of the landscape and the layout of the entire picture, rather than just drawing Takai, then drawing Kit, drawing the rest of the characters, and then forcing a background into the picture because at this point the perspective is so effed that M.C. Escher would throw his hands up in defeat.

So yeah. TL;DR - Plan ahead.

Oops. Well, I didn't want to sound like I was shamelessly trying to flatter you.
I'm just another artist saying But your art's so much better than mine Sorry ^^;

Sometimes I wonder though, if any artist actually thinks they're really good. Even people who everyone swears are the best artists ever (not saying you, just sayin' )  still don't think they're very good.

The background does look forced in... but I'm sure that even with it done as an afterthought you could have found a way to work it out, and it just didn't this time.
The only reason I think that is because I could have done that and the only reason I think I could have done that is because my backgrounds are so totally terrible right now that I can just force them into whatever shape because of how bad they are. So I would have made an ugly mess, actually.

Well, we live and learn more about art. Glad you got good experience out of this and know some of what to do next time.

It's fine! The thing is, we're all on the road to becoming better artists. We're all at different points on it, but that's more a question of time rather than talent. I'm not sure about other artist, but myself, while I'm more 'content' with my style now, I still feel like it's chicken scratch next to some other artists I admire. I think while artists may not ever say their style is "good", they probably become content with it at some point. I doubt the quest to get better ever truly ends, though.

I'm working on a picture now that's got the same dynamic. Very large character, very small background. I'm happy to say it's going slightly better. :D
