What? Perspective? That's absurd!

I thought I'd try it. It's not easy. I tend to avoid it out of laziness, and because I know it rarely turns out how I like. What can I say though, I'm happy with this one.

The picture:
Takai likes to surprise me when I get home. Tonight, it's a big surprise.

being as tall as she is and bent over to fit into smaller spaces all the time, isn't good for the spine! ouch!

This piece is adorable! <3 Super cute!

Note on the perspective, you have a trick of the eye happening here; her wrist ends nearly at the ceiling, but her elbow and head suggest that the ceiling continues past the frame of the ceiling.

That is a very, very good point... I love indoor scenes like this, but drawing a room, and then getting the pose right to show her inside it is really tricky. Thank you for pointing this out, hopefully I can do better with these in the future. XD

Takai's big surprise is usually a surprisingly big Taka. ^_^

I'd say you did a good job with the perspective. If I drew that, it would definitely feel either weird or difficult applying it to someone as big as Takai.

Lower angles like that are both weird and difficult... The real challenge is fitting Takai's head in the frame and still showing low enough to include myself on the page. XD

It still looks like you put some effort into it, and that's good. There's just this other technique I learned for drawing in perspective, and it could be even more challenging.

I don't think I can explain it well here, so let's just say that it starts by getting the top and side views if the objects you're trying to draw. The more shapes and objects you draw, the more complicated and messy the sketch will look with a large number of lines.

That technique is pretty new to me, but it clearly shows that it's good for drawing a small number of individual objects. It's just not a good idea to use it for drawing people, backgrounds and birds- or worms-eye views.

Yup! One of the better big surprises!

...And yet it wouldn't be too hard to turn this into a comedy routine with the guy totally failing to realize how large the lady has grown and assuming it's refering to something totally unrelated, heh. Fortunately Chibi is much too bright for that.

You've done some very nice perspective here!

I've noticed that Takai is wearing her glasses more regularly; I like it a lot, girls with glasses are just ADORBS. Hee! I've also noticed that Chibi is looking a good deal more adult in his body type; I'm reminded of when C.S. Lewis wrote in 'Prince Caspian' of how Trumpkin the dwarf was the size of a child but proportionately as muscular as a sailor. It's quite nice to see how you handle drawing Chibi so small but distinctly adult in his body type, as that's something I do as well. Judging from how you two seriously disliked it when Chibi is unfortunately mistaken for Takai's offspring, I'm not surprised you're making Chibi look more adult. :)

OF course I really have to say how much I like the whole size difference thing you two got going; I hardly EVER see anything like this done, and that's a real shame because of how insanely cute Huge Girl Tiny Guy is. :D

I'm glad you like the picture!

Yep, I'm drawing Takai with glasses more, primarily because now I'm *able* to draw her with glasses. She wears them most of the time, I've just never been able to render that on paper properly.

You're right about the design change on Chibi... There were too many times where I was confused for Takai's child just because of our size difference, and my proportions... And while I understand some people like that, we are very seriously not into the idea of ageplay, or even being mistakenly construed in that light.

Big surprise? Heh, bad pun :P

And yeah, it's hard to do perspective of people leaning on the ceiling, makes em look 2D xD

Anyways, awesome job :)

All puns are bad. They are just bad on varying degrees.

And I know, right? 2d ceiling poses for the lose. XD

O.o... do I detect a cow-lick like that of one of the beloved "Little Rascals?" Perspective is a pain in the butt, but it can be so beautiful when you get it right. This is indeed a successful piece. Well done.

I *always* have a cowlick. I don't know if it's the way I sleep, or something in my diet, but I always have a patch of hair that goes straight up. It's fairly ridiculous looking on a 27-year-old man.

i know how you feel bro, perspective and scaling are the only things that cripple me when it comes to drawing...and it sucks coz it makes my drawing looks like something a 5year old would draw >~>

That's how I feel. There's the level of ability I have when drawing people at a typical angle... And then there's the level of ability I have when drawing people from an odd one, like this. It's such a mess by comparison, it takes me so much longer to do, too. XD
